- Build authentic friendships One on One
Remember that friendly relationships take time. It's about trust! So take the time to really get to know the people in your circle of friends. Spend one on one time with them.
Be intentional about making new friends. Go out for a drink - coffee, tea, beer. Share a meal. Get some yogurt. Find some place to just hang out. Don't look for perfect friends, just real ones.
- Have fun in a small group
Build memories with a handful of friends with whom you feel comfortable. Go to a movie together. Share a meal. Find something fun that the group likes to do. Explore. Do something that will make you all laugh like crazy! You can mix it up too. It doesn't have to be an exclusive group. Be open to new friends!
- Participate with the larger community
Take the time to be part of the larger community when there is some kind of gathering. Go to community festivals. Enjoy shows and concerts. Join a rally if there is a cause you care about. Cheer at sporting events. Be part of a charity fund raiser. Help welcome a traveler or a visitor to the city. Claim your spot at the next parade!
Or you can be in the parade, play in the game, or be in the booth. Find ways of being a part of something bigger than yourself.
- Take some time for yourself
Invest in connecting with yourself. There's value in understanding and being comfortable with yourself because that will bring value to your experience with others in your community. Do what de-stresses you. Yoga. Exercise. Walk through an art park. Nap. Take some time to look up at the stars and yes, even stop to smell the roses at the community garden. After you have rejuvenated, remember to connect with others again! Your community is better when you are around to contribute to the life of it.
